Dr. Terrence M.S. Heng is Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Global Software Group, Motorola, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA. He is responsible for the planning, creation and management of software technology centers and software development in support of Motorola's businesses and their customers worldwide.
Prior to his present assignment, Dr. Heng was Corporate Director of External Technology Planning. Dr. Heng earned his B.S.E.E. degree at Washington State University, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He was involved in the creation of the department of electrical engineering at the University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur with the UNESCO foundation, and has held various management positions at the Westinghouse Research Center, Motorola Semiconductor Research and Development Laboratories, and the Unitrode Corporation, where he was the Chief Engineer and Corporate Director of Research and Development.
Prior to joining the Motorola Corporate offices, he was the Executive Vice President and successful cofounder of Omnirel Corporation in Massachusetts. Dr. Heng has authored numerous technical papers and has held various technical chairman positions with the IEEE, Research Directors groups, and international symposiums.
At present, he is a member of the Industrial Advisory Councils of the University of Illinois, Chicago, the University of Arizona, Northern Illinois University, and a member of the Key Executive Advisory Board of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. Dr. Heng is also a member of the Technical Committee of the US Council on Competitiveness, the Pacific Basin Economic Council, and the Board of Directors of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation, and was recently appointed Advisor to the Beijing Mayor on software industry development for a period of five years beginning in 2000. In 1997, he was also conferred an honorary Doctorate degree by the St. Petersburg, Russia Electrotechnical University for contributions to Russian technical education and research. |
