Some people are scared of terrorists, some are scared of a penurious old age- guess which is more likely to get you (not you personally- I'm using the "you" generically)? I can understand economic fear, especially when people have lived through privation. Just about everyone I knew who lived through the depression had a very nasty fear of stocks, for example, and a real appreciation for government safety nets. Seems to me that fear of economic reversals is a lot more logical than other things people fear.
