why do people live in Michigan, or the midwest?

the economy sucks, but the Detroit suburbs are a pleasant place to live. (It's becoming less pleasant. There's no money to fix the roads here. They are truly terrible.)

The area is very pretty, we have great sports teams, and a wonderful change of seasons. There's culture here for those who want it. Northern Michigan is a great getaway. A lot of nice places are a short flight away.

I'd rather live here than CA, which is far more crowded and has much higher taxes.

Still, as I said, I'd prefer to live up north and go somewhere warm in the winter.
