Let me go even further. The delinquent goes into hiding, as you said. It turns out that the other kids in town are also delinquents and are harboring the kidnapper. You know this, because when you walk by their houses, they chant "death to your family" and "we'll never give up your son or the kidnapper". So knowing you have limited time to find your son before they kill him, HELL YES, you go into their houses and beat them senseless to get them to tell you where they are hiding your son and where they are hiding the kidnapper.

Would you say the punishment is reasonable or proportionate?
