TopCall & Novell Unveil GroupWise Interchange Technology
TopCall & Novell Unveil GroupWise Interchange Technology 09/24/97 VIENNA, AUSTRIA, 1997 SEP 24 (NB) -- By Steve Gold. TopCall and Novell [NASDAQ:NOVL ] have teamed up to release a Novell GroupWise-compatible version of TopCall's TC/Link-GW, an e-mail gateway system.
According to Novell, TC/Link-GW allows organizations using GroupWise 4 or 5 to transparently interchange electronic business documents using fax, Internet mail, X.400, and telex, and provides seamless interfaces to proprietary mail systems and applications, which greatly extend the functionality of GroupWise and the productivity of the user. Plans call for the system to be marketed through Novell dealers worldwide.
Paul Kemper, Novell EMEA (Europe, Middle East, & Africa) product marketing manager, said that TopCall's product offers GroupWise users a comprehensive, transparent system to solve "the increasing complexities" of electronic communications.
"For our corporate customers, the Topcall GroupWise combination will be a great advantage in managing large volumes of diverse internal and external messaging transactions efficiently," he said.
Using the package, Novell claims that fax, Internet, and X.400 messages are all addressed in the user's GroupWise directories, just like any standard mail message. Incoming fax, Internet mail, X.400 and telex messages, together with GroupWise mail, are all received through the Topcall server, without linking the GroupWise client to different messaging services.
According to Novell, the GroupWise scheduling features are fully integrated into Topcall and appointment confirmations are automatically forwarded through the same Topcall server. Users can also take advantage of Topcall's multiple send options, support for binary attachments, Direct Inward Dialing (DID), status reporting and automatic application messaging -- all designed to save the user time and to cut operational costs.
"This collaboration provides us with an excellent opportunity to bring the advanced capabilities of Topcall's integrated fax and messaging solution to the growing number of GroupWise users," said Martin Hannah, Topcall International's CEO.
Plans call for the package to ship shortly through Novell's sales channels. The software will support synchronization with Novell directory services and other key features. Pricing on the software has yet to be confirmed, Newsbytes understands.
