You reminded me of the way things are done in some neighborhoods in New Orleans. It's common for liquor stores to have security glass fronts and a turntable. You order the liquor and put your money on the turntable, they turn it around, take the money, and put the liquor on it.

But even odder are the grocery stores and even bakeries which do that.

The proprietors would wear a gunbelt with pistols on it, openly.

I don't think I could handle working like that all the time.

I nearly had a nervous breakdown working in the warehouse district, walking to and from my car at night, I used to carry a pistol in my hand, which was legal. But all we did was printing, nothing valuable to steal.

I would leave my car unlocked so nobody would break the windows to get in, but some moron did anyway, once.

But that was New Orleans, those people I'm talking about are hard core crazy, even the cops wouldn't mess with them. Heck, a big percentage on the cops were almost as bad.

How did it get so bad? I am looking forward to what Spike Lee has to say this Monday and Tuesday on HBO. I think the people who could have made a difference didn't want to be bothered.
