I might just yet get my Birmingham townhouse, but of course, with the declining economic base, it will probably lose its appeal.

In most areas of Birmingham you can go down a street and see 25% of the houses for sale. Given the revenue sharing (where the cities have to give a certain percentage of their school taxes back to the State to be redistributed) the Birmingham school system has financial problems. Birmingham still commands a premium, but a lot of people question its value.

I haven't bought a Detroit car in over 20 years. The last one I owned was a total piece of shit. The quality gap has narrowed, but it's still a mile wide.
