the local right wing radio station I listen to was going on and on about how two of the countries that have agreed to send UN troops to S. Lebanon do not recognize Israel. Is that true?

I have no idea. But if true, then those countries should probably be excluded from participating, given their potential conflict of interest.

Turkey recognized Israel in 1949 and they have had good political ties for decades.

In fact, when Al Qai'da in Iraq leader, Lu'ay Saqa, who was a Syrian national, plotted to blow up that Israeli ship a year ago, both he and the ship were in Turkey.

He was also responsible for another terrorist bombing in Istanbul.

Most people have not heard of Saqa, but he was of considerable interest to our folks when I was over there. And the Turks captured him when he accidentally blew up his apartment while fooling around with his explosive preparations.
