Iran gives nod to gasoline imports for now
TEHRAN, Aug. 18 (MNA) – Government has authorized the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) to proceed with gasoline importation until the Majlis settles the budget issue and a would-be rationing and conservation bill on the imports, Mohammadreza Ne’matzadeh told the Persian service of Fars News Agency here on Friday.

“We are still waiting for the government and Majlis consensus on this matter. However, at any rate, there is no supply problem and people should not worry about it,” the managing director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) emphasized, stipulating the domestic need must naturally be satisfied.

“The NIOC is responsible for purchasing gasoline and the NIORDC is the agent for distribution nationwide,” he said, adding there has been no break in imports since the start of the year (March 21, 2006) and the daily average of 30 million liters has consistently been offered to the market to make up for domestic consumption.
