Don...I have no doubt that oil was a big factor in the decision to invade Iraq, but I still don't think even the oil companies were hoping for the type of outcome we've gotten.

They didn't like $12 buck oil and would certainly have preferred $25 buck oil. $25 buck oil with a stable Middle East would have meant GREAT profits for as far as their business plans could envision and I think they and their stockholders would have been VERY happy with that.

But....when you get to $75 buck oil you start getting all these pesky "alternative energy nattering nabobs" and competitive forces start coming at you that you weren't really expecting for many many more years. You get short term BOOMING profits, but you also get "public scrutiny" and "political backlash" and all sorts of troubles that you'd prefer to do without or at least put off.

So...I DO think the "Oil Guys" were with and behind the Iraq invasion, but I don't think they actually were planning on the way things turned out.
