Gov't puts money back into areas that private industry would ignore because they are not sexy.

Private industry is more likely to put money where it can generate a return. Government is more likely to put money in to "bridges to nowhere".

Yes, when the gov't is corrupted by a GOPer like Stevens. However, they also are more likely to put money into such things as building subsidized housing or creating parks or building roads.

Some people are greedy and self centered. Its a fact of life.

It not greedy or self centered to try to avoid paying more taxes then you have to. Its rationally self-interested, and is a very reasonable act.

Yes, and the common good be damned. Like the guy who tries to take the extra piece of pizza for himself.

The problem with this is that since the government distorts the incentives, the efficiency of investment, and the amount of wealth the investment creates, is reduced.

Not all things are about profit. I know that's hard for a hardened capitalist like yourself to accept.
