you need to go back further in history than that. To Abraham and his two sons. Isaac and Ishmael ... The unnatural hatred of the Jews is at the root of this my friend. The land of Cannan (Palestine) was promised to Abraham as an everlasting promise. The land that they are fighting over and most notably (Jerusalem) which is the epic center of the claim they both feel is their birthright. Combine that with Radical Islam Interpretation and you get justification for terrorism and killing of jews and Americans. I am afraid your view is a little narrow in it's scope.
