Of course Israel was trying to bomb Lebanon into submission. Hezbollah, which you apparently don't understand, isn't some rogue third party running around the countryside. Hezbollah is, as people who know have repeatedly said, inside the fabric of the country.

The inane Israel/US message is for LEBANON and Lebanese voters to kick Hezbollah as a political party, organization, whatver the heck out of the country. They do this by beating up Lebanon trying to prove that, while Hezbollah is in the country, Lebanon is a target.

The hope was that the Lebanese would connect the Israeli bombing with Hezbollah and turn on Hezbollah.

So yes, Israel was indeed trying to bomb Lebanon into submitting to its wishes for the 'RIGHT' outcome of the democratic process...one which favors Israel.
