Slowly but surely the cork is going the way of the dodo. Right now we have those evil plastic corks that strip the silicone from your screwpull, composite corks that are impenetrable, beer top openers, and the screwcap that annoys so many.

I think some of the premier cru wines will always use a good quality cork but those corks can cost a vineyard upwards of $2 each. Not likely for your daily swill. Last week I pulled a cork on a very nice super tuscan that had a 2 1/4" closure. The wine probably needed another 10 years of aging to be great and that lovely cork would have insured it. Very nice would have been spectacular had I the patience.

BTW, the writing on the can of Sophia called it carbonated wine. Methode coca cola. VBG Cin Cin MP
