"Saddam was boxed in."

I dont buy that containment argument. Yes, creative diplomacy given the ascension of iran would have gotten saddams attention, i am certain. But even if we dont agree on reasons for war, containment, even whether things would be better now with saddam, we now agree on the larger and more important point on how there are few good solutions out there. The only one i see that would work and that relies on trusting iran, is Sun Tzu argument that iran wanted a new relationship with the US/West and that they would have given up their rejectionism on the middle east, troublemaking in iraq and nuclear weapons aspirations at least in the short run for a general rapprochement with the west along with a major fp role in the region. I would make that deal in a second although i doubt that Sun was right.
