Guy's dog also came down with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, another first for the county.

Our second son had that. It attacked very quickly too. We were moving into a home about seventeen miles from the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville Fla and he was acting as tho he had a slight flu bug. Later on that afternoon he tried to walk down the stairs and couldn't walk... we went right to the hospital... he was isolated, hooked up to IV and given rest only - there wasn't much they could do until diaganosed... the main thing they watched him for were his lungs...they were concerned about the possibility that whatever it was would hit those... they diagnosed it several days thereafter from a blood sample... he had had one tick bite in NC not two or three days before on my Mom's five acres in NC. That was a scary time. He fortunately was discharged from the hospital before husband left for Viet Nam. More than that... he was Alive... how Grateful we were and are!

The care was awesome and there was a lot of communicating back and forth with powers that be in NC .. done by that hospital.

Heck... we have had multi tick bites (NC near Fort Bragg is filled with the little critters) before and after that, but once that happened we always saved the tick we removed until some time had passed... I don't know if that's even recommended now... but then we did. Never had another bad incident with ticks, and that was one event I'm happy that was never repeated.
