The primary reason Iran wants nuclear energy is because it's cheaper than oil

i disagree. Iran is probably the country with the most potential for oil and natural gas development in the world. they have really huge reserves and will have no problem being a big exporter with increased development. already China has made huge investments there.

Iran's interest in nuclear is for the bomb, period. the rest is a fig leaf. i don't blame Iran for wanting nukes. they have a hostile neighbor with nukes (Israel). Iran would be stupid not to go nuclear. it is the only way to ensure security for themselves--to ensure that the US doesn't invade them.

until they get the bomb, they need to continue to threaten to send oil to $200 by shutting down the Strait of Hormuz (a Silkworm into the side of one oil tanker is all it will take). the thread to hold the world hostage over oil is what they will use to keep the hostile enemy states (Israel and the United States) from attacking until their bomb is ready. once they have the bomb, they can say fark off with impunity, just like that fat short guy in Pyongyang.
