Chris,

I know very little about drive electronics, but considering that the linear velocity of the medium under the head increases with radius, the linear density will decrease with increasing radius if the bits are written at a constant rate. The write rate would have to be continuously varied in order to obtain a constant linear density since the angular velocity of the platter is essentially constant. This would seem to be more trouble than it is worth. Can anybody shed some light on this?

Regards,

Merlin
