That's what I had been doing, too.

I was an adult when I first had okra. It was from a can, one of my experimental purchases of alien foods. It was slimy, I hated the slime, and that was that. I'm struggling now to recall what made me try it again. It wasn't more than about fifteen years ago. I think I must have read something about it with advice to cook it whole to avoid the slime. Worked great. Now I nuke it without adding water and quickly pour off any liquid that appears during cooking. Then I eat it as you describe.

I'm glad I discovered it. I'm always receptive to vegetables that have enough flavor that you can eat them as is. That makes them healthier. And easy enough that preparing them fits within my framework of "I don't cook."

After you mentioned it the other day, I noticed some whole okra frozen in Safeway. Haven't tried it yet.
