That assumes that a parents political ideas and feelings will be taken up by their children more often than not.

I think there might be some, correlation between the ideas of parents and their children. Parents frequently raise their children, and even genetics might be a factor. OTOH the correlation, while probably better than random to an extent that would be considered statistically significant, probably isn't a very strong one.

So while the ideas mention in that Wall Street Journal piece might help the conservative cause, just slightly over the long run, its very easy for other factors to swamp that slight benefit.
