That assumes that a parents political ideas and feelings will be taken up by their children more often than not.

The kids, themselves, don't even keep the same political ideas and feelings through their voting years, let alone those of their parents, whose political ideas and feelings are also changing. And the parties, too, are changing over time.

Way too simplistic a notion. Like most, it has an element of validity, but you can only take that element so far.
