I reply about myself when others challenge me or when you belittle me with your "I'm better than anyone who doesn't agree with me" attitude.

I never wrote much software, except in highschool to show off in 1974 or to get the other half of the degree in EECS, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, at UC Berkeley. My specialty was semiconductor device physics and design. At HP I designed hardware for optical communications including new devices, chips and whole products. I think one product I started as a summer student in 1978 is still used in the cruise missile.

Congratulations on your dozen hardware patents. Are any of these being used today?

We kept most of my good ideas out of the patent office so they could remain trade secrets and help us get 95% market share. I have one patent for an optical receiver, but even with that I didn't disclose how it "really" works... that 12 year old design is still used in most notebook PCs even today for IrDA communication... of course we shipped it to Singapore and they rework it in lower cost IC processes but we did the original design and got the 95% market share.

I understand from your posts to other message boards that you are still making payments on your house.

I'm glad my "style" has you interested enough to read what I write on my own site as well as here. Nobody would read someone "boring." How is your people mark to ignore ratio these days? You've been here longer than I... it should be quite good since you say you are so much better than us who think higher prices are inflation.

As for payments on a house... so what? My loan to value is tiny and I get a nice write off for the part dedicated to my office. Beats the heck out of paying for an office somewhere. I could pay it off now, but I think I'll wait until I am at least 57, if at all. I have a pretty decent investment record so I'd much rather compound that in double digits while paying a 4.875% mortgage I write off. Seems a nobrainer to me.
