The GOP is a reflection of the rightwing's view of the world and of human beings. It's a childish view of the world as 'good vs evil', 'white vs black', 'us vs them.' It's also a lazy view of the world without nuance, without understanding, without education and without effort.
In order to maintain this view of the world they have to create 'the other' whoever or whatever that may be. The other used to be communists, blacks, feminists, gays, Irish, Italians, Indians, whatever and now it's Muslims. When the other is no longer Muslims, it will be someone else. Heck, at one point it was those dang revolutionary colonists.
This view of the world as essentially hostile and people as constantly in conflict colors everything rightwingers do. As long as they are in power, the world will be hostile and people will be in conflict.
