U.K. poll: Blair attracted more terror

LONDON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- By a wide margin, a British poll says Prime Minister Tony Blair's foreign policy and alliance with U.S. President George Bush has made Britain a terror target.
The ICM weekend poll of 1,007 people reported by The Mirror Tuesday found 72 percent felt Britain was at greater risk of attack based on Blair's policies.
By contrast, 1 percent said the country is a safer place as a result.
Twenty percent expressed confidence in the accuracy of what the government says about the security threat, 51 percent said they aren't hearing the full story, while 21 percent believe the threat has been exaggerated.
The poll's margin of error was not published.
A member of Parliament from Blair's Labor party, Paul Flynn, said the poll should be cause for concern in Blair's government.
"It is obvious that, by joining George Bush, we have deepened the sense of grievance ... and increased the risk of terrorism here," Flynn said. "It is encouraging that the public shares that view and raises questions about why we are joining Bush."
