The whole concept was "nanny-ism" --but I think the parent should occupy that role.

If the complaining parent has a problem with the depictions in a Tom and Jerry cartoon, the answer is simple: click (as in shutting off TV or computer access). No T&J at that household.

If you want to get into the relative merits, or lack thereof, of various programming, that's a huge topic unto itself.

There are bigger concerns and worse influences out there than a cat smoking a ceegar

I also doubt there are studies backing up the notion that a cartoon depiction of smoking created addicts.
