Jerry Sanders is correct on this one. The opteron was architected and its design was well underway when Hector joined. The decision to go after the server market was not new. AMD had been trying to get into the server market with the Athlon and even the K6 for many years. Jerry has always been flamboyant and has snatched more than his share of credit in his time so it is easy to overlook his contributions.
