It depends how you define "halfwit". Ignorance and arrogance and mean-spiritness are all apart from being a nitwit. Yes..you are right. Only a halfwit could hate the welcome mat. But I think it comes down to that old psychological problem of being a control freak. It is emotional and not intellectual.
