Despite popular perceptions, I doubt it was a fiendish plot or gross negligence by heartless rightwingers or muddleheaded lefties. I know those accusations are more fun, but unfortunately it's probably a combination of typical social change (a move away from strict grammatical standards as a social moral) and a hyperactive free market that gives people more and more and more of what they want, which is lowbrow entertainment of every kind. "Dumb and Dumber" sells a lot more tickets that Macbeth, fact is fact. Now tell me why it was actually all the fault of the muddleheaded lefties anyway. I'm sure that's the next post. ;<)
