I don't think that editing old cartoons to remove a few smoking references really accomplishes anything.

IMO, it's a feel good gesture and nothing more.

If people are truly concerned about exposing children to injurious images, the parents have to take greater control over their kids' access and focus on more meaningful approaches to the overall problem.

As a practical matter, at least in this country, smoking images have pretty much been excised from kiddie fare for years anyway.

I did have to chuckle about that one poster's concern for the Brothers Grimm. I'm not for messing with old stuff...lol.
Bread crumb trails and shoving kids into ovens...well, to each his own. Toss in Chucky and Jason and it's a party!

If I were a parent, I'd simply have to decide what I thought was appropriate for my children to view. That's the first and best line of defense. It applies to cartoons, video games,Grimm fairy tales, CDs and slasher flicks. Best not to wait for the nanny, daddy or big brother to handle the problem.
