Yeah, it was a rough job. My father in law flew 12 1/2 missions, and spent the following two years in Stalag 3. The only good part of the job was being able to sleep in a dry bed until you got shot down.

The people in Thurleigh still remember the fliers and treat them like royalty when they visit.

I met some Brits and Scots when I lived at a B&B temporarily in Alaska. Much of the old industry is shut down and thye now depend on tourists. One did complain that the country was being invaded by Muslims.
