Apple recalls laptop batteries SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL : 1:16 PM ET Aug 24, 2006 By Gabriel Madway AAPL66.90, -0.41, -0.6% ) will recall 1.1 million laptop batteries in the United States that are at risk of overheating, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday. The CPSC said an additional 700,000 batteries were sold outside the U.S. The recalled lithium-ion batteries, with cells manufactured by Sony Corp. were used in iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 laptops. According to the the CPSC, Apple has received nine reports of batteries overheating, including two reports of minor burns from handling overheated computers and other reports of minor property damage.
