Germany has the high end auto business pretty locked up, as well as a lot of high end appliances like dishwashers etc. Germany has done a much better job than the US at holding on to its manufacturing base, and they have a liability the US doesn't have because it is more expensive to ship from China to the US than from China to Europe so Germany has to compete harder. Dresden is also becoming a chip foundry hub now with AMD especially and other chipmakers. Spain has shoes and leather goods. Ireland is a tech and outsourcing center.

I wish I'd put all my dollars into the EU when Bush was elected.
