I don't understand this Iran situation.

What exactly is a "sanction"?

China, Russia and India all got energy deals with Iran, signed in recent years. Would a "sanction" interfere with these deals? I know India does not count but China and Russia both got veto power. How can they support a "sanction"?

Aren't we just going through the motion when we already know the answer?

I am not into energy stocks but that thought made me buy a few shares just in case oil goes to $100.
