We could reduce our oil use by 50% or more in 15 years with a combo of efficiency, conservation, major clean fuels programs, etc. Within 20-25, we wouldn't need oil at all except for lubricants and plastics.

But we can't do it with rightrwing Bushies in power. They and their oil lobbyist pals are thw #1 obstacle and everyone knows it.

Brazil got off gasoline completely in 15 years. Every car down there now runs on sugar cane ethanol. The air smells sweet when you're in a traffic jam. No pollution whatsoever.

Our great American desert could be turned into a huge solar and wind farm. That would create hundreds of thousands of jobs and get us totally off oil-burning power plants. Then that energy could be used to make hydrogen fuel.

Of course Exxon and the all-powerful oil lobby don't want anyone to know that solar, wind, ethanols and other clean fuels could take the place of gasoline. Nor do they want anyone to conserve or make engines more efficient. Their bloated windfall profits would quickly disappear if that happened.
