I am glad that the book "speaks to your condition", but I feel like I have been more or less up on all this from about 2 years ago. Hersh in series of Article's in the NY detailed all the news about "curveball" and the Germans warning on him, and Wolfitz and the Pentagon group that was searching for anything to justify an invasion even though the professionals couldn't find anything hard, and attempted to warm off the administration on "curve ball" Plus, I knew the WMD stuff was sketchy from the get go when they never paraded any Satellite images. Powell should have known better having been in the military. He should have at least pressed the case for them to come up with the hard evidence and challenged Rumsfield and Cheney. (and Dammit so should the Democrats also---you're not called the "opposiition" party for nothing). I was in a reserve intelligence unit for 6 years that met at the Pentagon (89-95) and even though I was an infantry officer I know pretty much how the intelligence community operates in DC. A good deal of that community is made up of mid-level civil servants (all the guys in the unit day jobs were with "agencies" as civil servants) And man these guys have kids in college and mortgages and even though they will try once to tell it like it is--if the message coming back is "that is not we want". They are not going to push back in any forceful manner. Most people wired into the 'system" knew it was going to happen just as soon as a convenient excuse happened. And while I do understand your appreciation for all the detail you have to more less trust me when I say I've been there done that--just in a different venue.
