Right. I'm in for the long term and can handle a medium-term global recession if one comes. However, I'm inclined to agree with Chip Goodyear and Don Coxe that base metals will remain strong despite a U.S. slowdown.

The supply/demand situation for zinc in particular is incredibly bullish. Antaike says China's zinc demand will increase by at least 56% by 2010: greatinvestmentarticles.blogspot.com

Even if they're way off and China's zinc demand only increases by 20% in that time, there's still not enough new zinc supply to meet the demand. There's already a global zinc crisis (http://greatinvestmentarticles.blogspot.com/2006/05/worldwide-zinc-crisis.html ). Somebody's going to have to go without zinc...
