I have asthma and am overweight, so maybe I'm optimistic for another 40 years. Trying to slim down over the next several years however, so there's hope. If you are one of these svelte active seniors like my mom, you'll just keep going and going...
Longevity is a weird thing: Some folks seem wired for it--my wife's great grandmother had a cigarette for breakfast each day and she lived into her 90's, just a rack of bones. Probably nothing there for a cancer to get started on.
While I turned 40, my father in law turned 70 this month. This fella is slim, active, watches his blood pressure--the guy could shoot for 100. However, a little bronchitis will knock him flat, and does every other winter. So I'd say his life expectancy is a function of keeping our snot-nosed kids away from him in the winter. He has four little grandchildren, all girls, aged 1 3 3 and 6: The greatest threat to his livelihood.
Tom, get your flu shots each fall and stay the hell away from the grandkids when they're sick. That's my long-winded advice (wheeze). |
