Its true that "the war on terror" does on the balance push things in a statist situation; but other than airport security its effect on the country as a whole is relatively moderate. Moderate? Only if you consider the following to be moderate: Absolute power for the POTUS Disregarding habeus corpus Renditions Torture as policy Limitless surveillance w/o Congressional oversight I see these as a bit more than moderate.
