Jim - Thanks for that additional info. I read the PR and it looks like the addition of an air venturi somewhere along the reverse circulation (RC) casing is adding lift or suction to the drill mud. Is that right? Guess that keeps the cuttings from wandering into the formation. But it looked like they had the RC casing several thousands of feet above the bit. I would have though positioning the RC casing closer to the bit might be prudent? Any indication as to whether they are using a percussion hammer? I can't imagine drilling basalt with a tricone, grinding and grinding. Goodness! Kinda makes me nostalgic for the good old cable tool days! <g> H3
