kai, I think Hp may have gotten a 10 yr tax holiday to put the plant in europe too.
but, you are right. the eec said you build a plant here or forget selling here. Since dell and cpq already have established plants in europe..hp is just catching up.
do think since pc is only 1% labor and 4% burden approx. that labor rates should effect too much coompared to mat'l cost.
hp did out grow dell last qtr. hp increased 386,000 pc's and dell only increased 385,000 pcs.
You have to watch percentages..dell didn't outgrow hp. it was the other way around. and cpq out grew both of them put together with 653,000. well almost<gg> funny how percentages can say anything but raw numbers are all that count.
