Speaking of downers.. 'Gabrielle' was a very talky, depressing 90 minute film that felt like 3 hours. And the ending was...'WHAT? We sat through this for that ending?'
It got fairly good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. I'd give it four thumbs down (borrowing thumbs from wifey).
As we left the theatre a couple of other people were shaking their heads.. commenting something to the effect of.. well that was a depressing waste of time.

As I think about it, the movie was like that novel you were assigned to read in high school that was dry as dust, seemed to be pointless, and forgettable. And when the teacher asked for discussion, no one had any thing to say...and yet it was considered fine literature.
If you're a Joseph Conrad fan you might find it of interest.
There was art here but it was incomplete and ultimately unsatisfying. That's my take.
