Welcome Larry, I share many of your thoughts. As for investing, I have begun nibbling in LEAPS, which is a long term options with expiration date as long as 2 1/2 years.

I have bought NN calls 50 Jan 00 @ $14 7/8 (symbol: LNWAJ) and 60 Jan 00 @ $11 3/4 (symbol: LNWAL). Both have moved up nicely.

I am not saying LEAPS is the best way to invest. After all, 90% of option players lose money. I own some MSFT LEAPS, and it is down a few points lately.
