Saddam suppressed the chiite fanatics with brutality. Except half the population - the women - were so much better off under a secular leader than a chiite nut regime, the entire country was better off and hence the region.

Nobody thinks toppling Saddam was a good idea anymore except Bush supporter hold outs but there are so few of those it doesn/t matter
