I take the position the oil producing countries need our spare parts and medicine and computers more than we need their oil when the discussion of power comes about... Come on, what's wrong with French spare parts, German medicine and Japanese computers? Every developed country in the world has a knowledgeable oil industry ready to help the producing countries locate and extract the oil for a fee. The US has no lock on that skill set.
