RE: "I think Israel would LOVE to be in a stable prosperous Middle East where they could act as THE top financial center."
As close as I can tell, the philosophy of Zionism is that as god's chosen people, Israel has a devine right to rule the world, starting with the Middle East.
No doubt they rationalize the philosophy in the same way as Hitler, Alexander and the Khans, in that if only everyone would bow down to them, things would be just grand.
There is one, and only one, formula for peace. It's simple and easy to understand: Leave people alone.
The flip side of the coin is the single moral justification for war: To use force against those who refuse to leave people alone.
Very few people honestly desire peace in the only way peace is possible. Truisms get worn out through over use, but I don't know of any way to improve on the saying, "Let he who desires peace prepare for war.".
The Swiss understand what the antiwar crowd never figured out; peace is not possible to those unwilling to fight. The Swiss also understand what the Hitlers, Zionists, Bushes, etc. never figured out; acts of aggression, overt or covert, do not engender peace, ever. |
