That's the real problem in our system today. I remember at the beginning of the last presidential election. I posted to AS and other Kerry supporters, that if it came down to Bush vs. Anti-Bush, Bush would win, plain and simple. Edwards, who was coming on strong in the end, was about the only democrat who seemed to recognize this and tried to give some specifics (not position papers) that would be understandable by the people.
The American people are tired of attack ads that say nothing and give no constructive plan. WE are tired of campaigns that concentrate on a politician's sex life and ignores his ties with lobbyists. Name the area, taxes, economy, deficit, SS, the war, terror and all you see is "their plan is wrong."
Any of us could get together and come up with more effective and efficient policies. Until our politicians do that, we will continue to have projections that as little as 30% will vote in the next election, in essence assuring a minority government, with minimal popular support, that panders to the special interests. |
