But it will definitely increase the friction between Pakistan and India.. That, at the very least, seems obvious.

As a former Indian citizen, I would bet that India has a lot more patience than Pakistan (governments, not people - I have friends and family in Lahore and Karachi, and Pakistani friends in the US as well... we shake our heads every time there is a conflict).

Instead of helping create Bangladesh in 1971, India could have annexxed that land and designated that area "Bengal". Ask Gen Niazi from Pakistan, and Gen Aurora from India, who signed the ceasefire docs.

India could have created war when there was not adequate reason - it did not. Every Indo-Pak war (including 1999 Kargill) was initiated by Pakistan...
