Interglacial periods last for 10,000 to 12,000 years. Typically things warm up to a certain point, then abruptly starts to cool off, like it did when we entered the Little Ice Age. Things progressively got worse until we started to pour CO2 into the atmosphere, and with a suitable lag the Little Ice Age receded into history. So one important question is whether or not the end of the Little Ice Age was just a coincidence or not.
