No Saddam produced his own poison gas, and most of the Saddam's weapons and the Soviet Union was the largest seller of weapons and weapon's platforms (and helicopters) to Saddam. The US did sell helicopters to Saddam but if he didn't have American helicopters he would have had Russian and French helicopters anyway. And helicopters have plenty of peaceful uses. Saddam was the one who ordered the gassings. Blaming the US because we sold him 60 light helicopters fas.org is like blaiming Ford for selling the getawaty care when the bank robbers had 4 Chevys, 3 Chryslers and a Toyota available.
