We spent a year abroad when our children were younger so that they would learn another language and the proper cadence of the language as spoken by native speakers. 2 of our three children skipped a year in the states after we returned because they were so far ahead...the 3rd we did not move ahead because she had such a great social class and we felt it more important that she remain with that class. People were quite surprised when we made our decision to live abroad, and they were more surprised when the kids came back with a better education.
